LOCAL WEATHER ALERT

D.C. declares state of emergency


The District government declared a state of emergency Saturday afternoon, allowing it to apply for federal financial aid. Virginia has already done the same, and Maryland is expected to do so soon.

Friday's devastating storm has killed at least 5 people in the metro region, and 1.3 million still are without power.

More damaging storms possible later today in D.C. area

Residents in the D.C. metro region should expect to see storms between 5 and 10 p.m. The Capital Weather Gang warns this storm may produce widespread, damaging winds. An excessive heat warning is also in effect for the area.
