Gun Control Measures Should Be Measured
Sean spent some part of Monday’s show trying to address the tragic events that occurred in Colorado and to offer some clarity in a very unclear time. “If you look at four of the five worst gun massacres, you’ll see they all happened outside the United States,” explained Hannity in an effort allay fears,” Not that facts matter in this case but the worst was in Norway in July of 2011 and, by the way the acquisition and storage of guns is regulated by the State.” Sean brought up other tragedies like shootings in Korea and Australia to make the point that, while America is still reeling from these senseless killings, it’s important that we not lose site of the importance and value of protecting our second amendment rights. Sean spent a good portion of the show just a few weeks ago talking about the battle for second amendment protection and was joined by John Lott, Jr, author of the book, “More Guns, Less Crime” who h ad some amazing statistics that backed up the assertion that guns can actually make the world a safer place. Jay Sekulow and Peter Johnson
Sean was joined by Jay Sekulow and Peter Johnson to break down the shootings in Colorado from a legal perspective to see what options are available for James Holmes, the man accused of the shootings. “The intent, for the prosecutors, is that they’ll have to show criminal intent,” kicked off Sekulow, “There’s no doubt in my mind that they’re going to try the insanity defense and these cases are, often times, difficult for prosecutors to overcome the burden.” “What people need to understand is there’s a difference between insane and an evildoer,” continued Sekulow, “The premeditation involved in this story makes the insanity defense less tolerable.” “We’re going to see this picture evolve,” added Johnson, “We’re going to learn about accountability, were there people who had the capacity to shut this down.” Johnson clarified, “I’m not talking about gun control because Colorado has some of the strongest laws on the book but if people don’t act in ways that are socially responsible in seeing this type of person on a path and not acting, we have a problem with society.” “The law addresses the distinction between evil,” asked Hannity, “What is the distinction in the law, because if someone goes into a movie theater thinking he’s the joker, clearly he’s insane.” “Criminal insanity is not knowing what you’re doing,” explained Sekulow, “What I’d build on is the for-knowledge of what he did, the fact that this was so strategized that this was, apparently, not a teeing off event.” The specifics of this case will definitely evolve. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell
Senator Mitch McConnell joined Sean to get a sense for the future of America. “If we had the labor participation rate that President Obama had when he took office we’d have 11% unemployment,” began Hannity, “We have few Americans working today than when he took office, isn’t that almost unimaginable.” “This is an extremely anti-business administration,” offered McConnell, “The President even went so far as to say ‘if you own a business, you didn’t build that’, that’s a direct quote.” The President has taken some heat for his comments, and rightfully so. As Senator McConnell explained, “Who does the President think took out the loans and hired employees and took the risks.” It’s the right question to ask, if Americans didn’t build small businesses throughout this country, who did?
