Karl Rove
Karl Rove, author of Courage and Consequence, joined Sean and gave his perspective on the latest polls which have been conducted over the last 12 hours - many of which are showing the race incredibly close or with Governor Romney leading. With early voting being such a prominent factor in the early polls, there is a lead for the Republicans this time around, with many of the cities in Ohio showing a lead of Republican votes, by 13% points or more throughout the state. The Republican base is energized and getting their people out to vote, much more so than the Democrats. This election cycle shows the Democrats falling behind in early polling voting numbers. Sean and Rove discussed the lack of real issues the President has been addressing this election cycle. Four years ago Obama made the point that when a candidate doesn't have anything of substance to say they run on nonsense, for example the President is now talking about bayonets, Big Bird, and calling his opponent, Governor Romney, a "bullshitter." Ed Rendell
Former Governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell joined Sean in the last hour of the show and gave his point of view on the race and the reasons why is it so close. A big part of the divide in the country can be attributed to the negative campaigning from both sides Rendell explained. The former governor argued that the shape of the nation and the overall GDP is much better than when the president took office four years ago. Sean laughed at the 2% GDP growth rate. With the increasing debt and government readied jobs we should be much further ahead Sean argued. Rendell felt that Obama has done things that are positive for the country and there needs to be some sort of understanding that he has had success. The two men briefly discussed Obamacare. Sean asked the governor how the nation will be able to afford the health care program that Obama plans to put forth. The governor was not able to answer the question as to how this will be funded or subsidized, but did tell Sean that th e health care efforts will actually decrease the national deficit. When Sean asked the governor how this would actually work, Rendell pointed his finger at the CBO which is where he said he received his information.
Sununu vs. Richardson
Nowadays all Obama sees are red states and blue states. All we hear are distortions about Romney's record. To be sure, the president is doing plenty of name-calling out there on the campaign trail. As a matter of fact, during a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine, he called Governor Mitt Romney a, quote, "BS-er" -- only he said the actual word. So much for "President Civility"! Sean was joined with reaction to the R-rated president's brand-new tone of desperation, former New Hampshire governor, Romney adviser, John Sununu, and the former New Mexico governor, Obama supporter, Bill Richardson. "The use of the BS word was kind of a self-defining moment for the president. No class. Wants to be cool. Sacrifices being -- you know, the dignity of the presidency for appearing cool to a magazine that works for some of his base," said Sununu. Richardson disagreed and argued that this is common as you head into an election. "There has been negativism o n both sides. This is the last 10 days of the campaign," argued Richardson.
