Israel-Hamas cease-fire expected to begin tonight

Israel and Hamas will end a week of fighting in the Gaza Strip today at 9 p.m. local time, 2 p.m. ET.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr announced the cease-fire in a joint news conference with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Tuesday in Cairo. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the deal from Jerusalem, saying he had agreed after consulting with President Barack Obama.
