Defending Christmas

Early yesterday afternoon, House Republican leadership staff had put out word that they had enough votes to pass Boehner's Plan B on the fiscal cliff. However, by 8pm Boehner pulled the plug and conceded that the House Republican whip team could not rally the votes for the plan. Rudy Giuliani, filling in for Sean, said ultimately Boehner could not generate enough votes from House members who had promised their constituents they would not raise taxes. "It was very important to those House members that the focus be on reducing the out of control spending in Washington than on tax increases," the former Mayor of New York City explained. Rudy felt the spending problem could be summarized into one big problem - health care. "If you look at our budget and how it's growing over the next ten to twenty years - health care is eventually going to take up most of our spending. By 2030 we'll have doubled the money we're spending on health care. If the president was s erious about straightening out the budget of this country he'd be addressing ways to reduce the cost of health care," said Giuliani. Defending Christmas As we enter the Christmas weekend and start to think about celebrating with our families, there’s another group out there spending money trying to debunk people’s belief in Jesus. Sean was joined by David Silverman, the President of American Atheists, the group who made headlines this week for their billboards denouncing the existence of Jesus. “You’re insulting people,” a seemingly angry Hannity said, “You want to stick it in the ribs on their holiday and be rude and narcissistic…and mean. Why?” “This is the time of year when so many atheists drag themselves to church against their own will because they think the church is an integral part of Christmas,” countered Silverman, “We’re saying, for those people, you can keep the merry and have a party but you don’t have to go to church and you don’t have to pray to a God in which you don’t believe.” “Excuse me,” excla imed Hannity, “Nobody is forcing you to go to a church!” “All we’re saying is don’t allow people to force you to go to church,” offered Silverman, That’s all we’re saying.” You can watch Sean’s entire heated debate on Hannity.com or by clicking here. |
Steve Forbes Mayor Rudy Giuliani was joined by former presidential candidate and author of, Freedom Manifesto, Steve Forbes to talk about the fiscal cliff and what it means for us. “There is no way that you can get anything resolved in the next six or seven days,” began Giuliani, “So they should just pass an extender.” “You get a lot of bad legislation when you do something in a rush,” agreed Forbes, “Look, no deal is better than a bad deal so let’s just calm down and do an extender for six months and look at it next year.” “I hate the idea of kicking the can down the road and the next Congress will be more democratic than this one,” offered Giuliani,” But there really is no way to get this done.” This is one point that shouldn’t be lost in the discussion and fear of going over the fiscal cliff. While it’s obviously important to address Washingto n’s spending addictions as soon as possible, engaging in a rushed bill that is passed in the middle of the night on a Christmas weekend is just asking for more trouble. Cooler heads need to prevail. Today's “Hot Topic” On The Hannity Forums: How about a cop at every school? - bonchie Why not just take an on duty cop off patrol and have them stationed at schools?
