Special Message from
Michael Reagan
Chairman

Dear League Member:

On Friday I emailed you with an urgent request to call Congress and demand that House members not cave in to President Obama's outrageous demands for tax increases and no major spending cuts.

And late last week there were press reports suggesting that a compromise "deal" was in the works – which would have been bad for America.

Thanks to the League and your efforts, thousands of calls have flooded into Congress.

This is a holiday period, and we can't let them think the American people are asleep.

Still, no deal has been completed as I write this – but things are moving in our direction.

So we need to keep the momentum going our way.

I am urging you today to call Congress, ask for your representative and senator, tell them you OPPOSE any tax increase in any form as part of any compromise deal.

Tell them Mike Reagan and the League of American Voters recommended you call them.

Please call the Congressional switchboard now at:

202-224-3121

Congressional Republicans should absolutely call for renewal of the Bush-era tax cuts — and make them permanent.

The League firmly opposes any tax increase, and urges all Democrats and Republicans to oppose any legislation that leads to a net increase in overall tax revenue for the federal government.

Even a tax on the so-called "wealthy" will have disastrous results for the economy.

All of us are aware that raising taxes on the top two percent is not going to dent the federal deficit at all. Such a tax will cover just nine days of federal deficit spending — just nine days!

And the likelihood is that a tax increase will hurt the highest income earners and small business owners, the most successful in our society.

If they have to pay more in tax, they will cut back spending, hire less, and move their assets into tax havens like government bonds.

In the end, the government will get less in taxes, and the federal deficit will increase.

So, Congress should simply say "no" to any deal calling for increased taxes on anybody.

Again, it's important you let your voice be heard!

Please call the Congressional switchboard now at:

202-224-3121

If the line is busy, please call back and try again.

The League promised to be a guardian of you the taxpayer, to stand up for our common-sense values and oppose Washington deal-making.

Please stand with us today.

Don't let Congress ram through a major tax increase under the cover of a holiday!

Thank you.

Yours for America,

Michael Reagan
Chairman

P.S. I have been told by sources in Congress that some wavering members who were thinking of backing President Obama's "deal" have changed their minds. We need to keep the pressure on! Please call Congress today and emphatically say: "No more taxes in the middle of a recession!"
