Hawaii governor picks Schatz to replace Inouye in Senate

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie (D) has selected state Lt. Gov. Brian Schatz to fill the U.S. Senate vacancy created by the Dec. 17 death of veteran lawmaker Sen. Daniel Inouye.

A former state Democratic Party chairman and state lawmaker, Abercrombie selected Schatz, 40, who was elected to Hawaii's second-highest office in 2010.
