Revealed: New Details on the Badly Wounded Hero Who Fought Alongside Fallen SEALs in Benghazi

New details have emerged about the badly wounded Diplomatic Security agent who nearly lost his life trying to save his fellow Americans during the Benghazi terror attack on Sept. 11, 2012. David Ubben, who is appropriately being hailed as a true American hero, is reportedly still recovering from his injuries at Walter Reed medical center in Washington, D.C., according to Fox News.

Ubben has reportedly undergone several surgeries at Walter Reed to save his right leg, which was severely injured in Benghazi.

However, the most incredible aspect of the story lies in the man's heroic actions on the night of the attack as he risked his life in an attempt to save the lives of Americans. U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, Foreign Service Officer Sean Smith and former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were killed in the deadly siege.

Ubben reportedly helped recover Smith's body after fearlessly going back into the burning U.S. compound in Benghazi several times to search for survivors. He believed Smith was already dead from smoke inhalation when he found the body, according to Fox News, the first news outlet to establish contact with the Diplomatic Security agent.

Citing unnamed sources, Fox reports that "during the second wave of the attack, Ubben was on the roof of the CIA annex — along with former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty — defending the compound. It was a harrowing scene as dozens of militants attempted to swarm the barriers."

At some point, three mortar rounds hit the compound. One of the rounds fell short, but the next two were on target. Tragically, both Woods and Doherty were killed in the assault and the mortar tore apart Ubben's leg.

Both of Smith's parents, Pat and Ray, remain highly critical of the Obama administration over its handling of the attack, both before and after.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) claims the State Department has gotten in the way of him meeting and talking with Ubben at Walter Reed. He says he had a meeting schedule but then was "denied."

"America needs to thank these people for the horrific things they went through…I think if we heard from the survivors including Ubben — as they walked into that room — there's wouldn't be a dry eye in the place because this is what America is all about," Chaffetz said. "These are our heroes. We need to hear from them."

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) echoed Chaffetz, saying America "needs answers" on the Benghazi attack.

But State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki denies stonewalling members on Congress. She said the department doesn't "prevent anyone from telling their story."
