Cory Booker's Imaginary Friend
Breaking News August 29, 2013 Dear National Review Reader: What would happen if, say, Marco Rubio, or Ted Cruz, or another leading conservative lawmaker, had created a political prop, an imaginary friend, with a contrived name, whom he talked about in numerous campaign speeches and public meetings in order to create a dramatic and emotional back story, in order to win over voters? And what would happen if the media discovered this ploy, that this conservative lawmaker had concocted his bogus buddy? You know exactly what would happen: There would be a tsunami of liberal-media rage. MSNBC's microphones would melt from Chris Matthews' ire. The Times would run an apoplectic special edition. Gawker and the Daily Kos would go to Defcon One status. Well, this is EXACTLY what a leading Democrat, Newark Mayor Cory Booker, has done. This media darling, the frontrunner in the U.S. Senate special election, has long used in his political speeches the stories of his dealings and friendship with one "T-Bone." The trouble is, as is revealed in an important new story by NRO's Eliana Johnson, T-Bone is a figment of Booker's imagination. From her article:
