NR to Conservatives: Don’t Despair!
Breaking News October 28, 2013 Dear National Review friends, My colleagues Ramesh Ponnuru and Rich Lowry have co-authored a powerful essay, "Against Despair," that is a profound analysis of the recent government shutdown and its consequences. Besides its discussion of conservative political strategy, the essay focuses on the conservative movement's need to make a stronger, broader, and more positive appeal to voters—which is what it will need to do in order to achieve eventual and real legislative success on Capitol Hill. The essay appears in the new issue of the magazine (November 11, 2013 cover date). Normally we do not share premier magazine content on our website, but we believe this piece is so important that it merits an exception. Hence, we have made it available to you for immediate reading. I humbly suggest you find 15 or so minutes in your busy schedule to read "Against Despair," and to share it with your friends and kinfolk (please feel free to email them the link to the article). Some may find the Ponnuru-Lowry take to be controversial. But its central point is sage and imperative counsel to the conservative movement. And now, on to . . . beer. I take this opportunity to alert you to the event we are hosting in Boston on November 20th. It's an NR fundraiser at the Harpoon Brewery which will feature my colleagues Kevin Williamson, Mark Steyn, Jay Nordlinger, Jim Geraghty, and Jonah Goldberg. There will be wit, wisdom, beer, pretzels, food, more food, more beer, more wit. A great time awaits! Please join us. Click here for more information.
