Jolt no, Baccala yes

Nationalreview.com

Dear Friends,

National Review 's offices are closed today, and tomorrow, and, effectively, on Friday. Alas, no Morning Jolt.

But who needs it, when on our roofs tonight there will be an Evening Jolt caused by reindeer hooves and jingle bells and a fat guy cramming himself in the chimney?

On a personal note, I encourage those of you who like hokey old Hollywood short films to find a little time this evening and watch this Christmas classic, Star in the Night, a wonderful Warner Brothers one-hankie starring J. Carrol Naish (whosa oncagaina playina de Italiano misanadeetrope). It's a treasure from simpler simpler times.

Don't let the Fowler fool you - I am half Italian. This is the great night of the Seven Fishes feast, of baccala, (mangia bene!) and Midnight Mass.

You enjoy the day (there will still be plenty to read on NRO) and have a very Merry Christmas. To those of you who do not celebrate the day, I pray that love and joy come to you, and to you your wassail too.
