You Look Like a Model

Nationalreview.com

Dear Friends,

There's still plenty of time for Christmas shopping, and still plenty of time for you to participate in National Review's end-of-the-year Webathon, which is rip-roaring right now on NRO.

As you know, the gargantuan amount of content Rich Lowry and his editorial minions produce on a daily basis is consumed by millions -- at no cost to them. As you also know, there is a cost to publishing. A big cost. Hence our Webathon.

Speaking of Rich, today his powerful appeal was published, you can read it here. It's an excellent case for the need of our most frequent fans to . . . pitch in. As I reminded you a week or so ago, our founder Bill Buckley was indeed the legal owner of National Review, but, spiritually and morally, he considered that he owned the institution in trust for our readers.

There has always been this sense -- this reality -- that National Review is a mutual cause. That it is not merely a publication, and not merely a company. This appeal, this Webathon, may be about us and our financial needs, but as Rich makes clear, it is also truly about you.

Yes, as the subject line says, you look like a model. Our business model. Embrace it!

More about Rich: He works tirelessly, slavishly, every day. I don't think he's had a true day off in years. He is uniquely passionate about this institution, all that it has meant, all that it means, all that it will mean, and he knows, keenly, as did Bill, that we are all in this together, if you'll pardon that cheesy phrase.

Or maybe you'd prefer Shakespeare? If so, we are a happy few, a band a brothers (and I'll add sisters too). Be part of this happy band: Would you consider donating $25, $50, $100, more? We're thrilled even with a good ol' sawbuck, and the Widow's Mite. We know every dollar given is an act of selflessness and true generosity, something on which we have no claim.

I hope you'll step up and help. You can do that here .

If you've already done so, please accept my thanks, and the thanks of Rich, and all of us who, each and every day here at Bill Buckley's National Review, continue to stand athwart history and yell Stop, alongside you.

Best,

Jack Fowler
