| Dear NR Friend, Well, let's admit it – knowing Miss America is cool. Knowing a conservative Miss America is really cool. And knowing a Miss America who has become an accomplished journalist and who is groovy to NR writers, well, that is about the realiest cool there is. Of course I am talking about Gretchen Carlson, and tomorrow is her big day – that's when her much-anticipated new book, Getting Real, is formally (really!) published, released, and available in your local bookstore. If you love her on Foxs News Channel's The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson, you'll love the detailed look into the real Gretchen that you will find only in Getting Real. (Hey, you've got to love the book if only because it doesn't have a 50-word subtitle!) Check out Gretchen's website - where amongst the many groovy things to read and poke and prod is a very thoughtful Q & A, which includes this answer to the question about the importance of faith to Gretchen (about which she is proud, and which has resulted in many personal attacks): I have to wonder what's going on in our culture that makes it okay to attack people for their faith. The Miss America judge who called me "Miss Piggy" also called me a "God-clutcher." The truth is, faith was an important part of my upbringing and has remained central to my life and my family's life. Our faith is what inspires us to reach out and volunteer to help others. As a child my parents taught me the biblical charge, "To whom much is given, much is expected," and faith guides me that way. And I believe, especially in this day and age, it's vital that we provide our children with a foundation from which to build their lives – one that gives them a sense of purpose. No surprise: There's a ton of deserved praise raining down on Getting Real. Here's just a smattering of applause from fortunate folks who've gotten a preview: True: Gretchen Carlson's Getting Real should be assigned reading for every high school girl in the United States. Remarkable story. –Hugh Hewitt, Nationally syndicated radio talk show host, lawyer, and author In 1989, Gretchen Carlson was chosen to be Miss America-I was one of the judges who picked her! Since then, I have watched Gretchen grow as a journalist and as a woman, proving that beautiful women can be smart and that working women can be good moms. In Getting Real, Gretchen writes frankly and with humor about the challenges she's met along the way. We can't all be Miss America, but we can all learn from Gretchen how to confront whatever comes our way and come out winners." –Deborah Norville , anchor of "Inside Edition" and author of Thank You Power "Gretchen's Getting Real is a powerful tool for young women who desire to become everything God designed them to be. She is poignant and self-deprecating as she shares her struggles on the long road to success. And she honors the God of all creation in the process. Brava!" –Kathie Lee Gifford, co-host of "The Today Show" and author of Just When I Thought I'd Dropped My Last Egg "Gretchen has such an amazing message for inspiring young women. One of courage, determination, faith and guts. We all have a journey, and Gretchen has graciously given us her map to help others find theirs." –Kristin Chenoweth "Finding success in life comes after some failures and a lot of hard work. Watching Gretchen succeed inspires me and will inspire all women: she seized the day, made the most of her talents, and never, ever gave up." –Vanessa Williams, Singer, Actress, and New York Times Bestselling Author This is a real-life story of striving, achieving, falling, failing, rising, overcoming, succeeding, appreciating. It's exactly the kind of book you'll want to read, and to give as a gift – especially to the young women in your life who are yearning for something and someone who is . . . real. Something that will touch the heart and the soul, that will inspire. Which is exactly what Gretchen Carlson does in Getting Real. Order your copy now, right here. She had sued J&J alleging talc in its Baby Powder caused her disease. Johnson & Johnson is attempting to end litigation by tens of thousands of claimants who believe its talc products caused their cancer with a so-called "Texas two-step" bankruptcy. The maneuver involves offloading its talc liability onto a newly created subsidiary, which then declares Chapter 11. The goal is to use the proceeding to force all plaintiffs into one settlement – without requiring J&J itself to file bankruptcy
