Wow, What a Week.

Dear National Review Friend,

Agree or disagree, from flags to gay marriage, some folks want you to keep it to yourself. The unbridled furor of the Left and its vast echo chamber is now full-throated, and demanding – demanding! – that any and all who disagree with them publicly to just . . . SHUT UP!

They want an . . . END OF DISCUSSION. And probably a lot more.

Was there ever a more timely book, then, than the new acclaimed work by Mary Katharine Ham and Guy Benson, END OF DISCUSSION: How the Left's Outrage Industry Shuts Down Debate, Manipulates Voters, and Makes America Less Free (and Fun)?

Stop what you're doing, run to the mall bookstore and get your copy of End of Discussion, or, to heck with the running, order one from Amazon. You really should not wait or waste another minute - count on countless discussions being ended while you do!

Want to know what it's about, pronto? I have two quick-learn suggestions. One is to visit endofdiscussionbook.com. The other is to check out this great Morning Joe segment where the dynamic duo defenders of the First Amendment talked powerfully about the out-of-control shut-up-and-shame-your-foes movement that Lefties are employing on all fronts, from the dinner table to social media.

What are "they" saying about End of Discussion? I'll tell you what some of my favorite "theys" are saying. For example, Dana Perino says:

"Mary Katharine and Guy are two of the bright stars of conservative commentary, and their insight and humor comes together well to showcase the absurdities of manufactured outrage and the benefits of taking a breath before launching an attack. End of Discussion is a smart and charming political page turner that was a delight to read."

And then there's Brit Hume, a big a "they" as there ever was, who says "This book needed to be written, needed to be published and needs to be read. Best of all, it's great fun to read."

How about . . . Hugh Hewitt? "Come for the writing and humor, stay for the point."

Or, Brad Thor? "A brilliant exposé of the Left's outrageous outrage over everything!"

Let me tell you a little more about End of Discussion, courtesy of the exceptional pr copywriters at Crown Forum:

The Outrage Industry is a network of well-trained operatives, nonprofit groups, PR Firms, universities, and "thought leaders" who collaborate to foment outrage over the next subject deemed not fit for discussion. These "P.C. Police" disqualify conflicting viewpoints on everything from health care to infrastructure by labeling them racist, sexist, and evil. They make us paranoid about supporting the "wrong" fried chicken joints, internet browsers, breast cancer charities, pasta, children's toys, Halloween costumes, schools, and even comedians' jokes.

End of Discussion explores these crafty manipulations of discourse, showing how these flamboyant displays of disgust are planned and orchestrated from start to finish. Ham and Benson demonstrate just how dangerous this media frenzy is to democracy with one shocking example after another. They attempt to restart the discussion on these untouchable topics:

The Dog-Whistle Whisperers: How Race-Baiting Is Exploiting Americans and Silencing Debate

Vagina Demagogues and Women's Crusade Against Women; How You Inadvertently Committed a Sexist Act by Purchasing an iPhone 6.

Speech Police Academy: How You Better Check Your Privilege Level (Race, Sex, Gender, Socio-Economic Status) Because What You're About to Say (such as "Thank You," or "Bless you" for sneezing) is Probably Racist, Sexist, Backwards or All of the Above.

Bake me a Cake, Bigots: Why Your Coexist Bumper Sticker (spelled with various Lucky Charms marshmallows) has the Opposite of Its Intended Effect. We Hear You, "Catch Up with the Times Conservatives or Give Up and Shut Up."

With Ham and Benson's help, readers can cut through the noise and find their voices again, fighting back against the rampant self-censorship and hair-trigger apologies that always make things worse, not better. With fresh reporting and insightful, occasionally tongue-in-cheek, analysis, End of Discussion is a timely handbook for anyone who wants to make sure debate doesn't meet an ugly death.

So are you just going to sit there looking at the screen? Or are you going to do what you know you should do . . . what you need to do? Which is: to order your copy of End of Discussion.

Do it!

End of Email.

P.S.: OK, it's not the end - of the email. Here's what the great Jim Geraghty had to say about "Here's why I can wholeheartedly endorse and recommend this book: Mary Katherine Ham and Guy Benson are really good writers. This book had me laughing out loud on yesterday's flight."

Now it's the end.
