A Republican, he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Texas in 1998 and assumed the governorship in December 2000 when then-governor George W. Bush resigned to become President of the United States. In 2011, Perry he was running for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2012 presidential election. Perry suspended his campaign in January 2012 and eventually endorsed Republican nominee Mitt Romney.  In 2013, Perry announced that he would not seek re-election to his fourth term in the 2014 election, planning to retire instead and focus on another White House bid for 2016.  Perry is a social conservative. He supported a successful Texas Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage in 2005. He also signed both parental notification and parental consent legislation for pregnant minors seeking abortions. In 2003, he signed the Prenatal Protection Act, which explicitly included fetuses in its definition of human life.   Maria Bartiromo has been a pioneer in the journalism industry. She joined CNBC in 1993 after five years as a producer, writer and assignment editor with CNN Business News, where she wrote and produced some of CNN's top business programs. In 1995, she became the first journalist to report live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on a daily basis.  Bartiromo has covered business and the economy for more than 25 years and was one of the building blocks of business cable network CNBC. During her 20-year tenure as the face of CNBC, she launched the network’s morning program, "Squawk Box"; anchored "The Closing Bell with Maria Bartiromo"; and was the anchor and managing editor of the nationally syndicated "On the Money with Maria Bartiromo," formerly "The Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo."  Bartiromo joined FOX Business Network as their Global Markets Editor in January 2014. She is the anchor of "Mornings with Maria Bartiromo" and "Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo."  Her books include "The Weekend That Changed Wall Street," and "The 10 Laws of Enduring Success," both released in 2010.   Governor Tom Ridge served as a member of the United States House of Representatives (1983–1995) he successfully ran for this Congress from northwestern Pennsylvania, and was re-elected six times. Ridge was notable as the first enlisted Vietnam combat veteran elected to the U.S. House. As of 2009, Ridge has never lost an election for public office, the 43rd Governor of Pennsylvania (1995–2001), Assistant to the President for Homeland Security (2001–2003), and the first United States Secretary of Homeland Security (2003–2005). Following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, U.S. President George W. Bush created the Office of Homeland Security within the White House, and named Ridge to head it.  Since re-entering the private sector, Ridge has served on the boards of The Home Depot, The Hershey Company and Exelon Corporation and as a senior advisor to Deloitte & Touche, and TechRadium. Ridge is also the founder and CEO of Ridge Global, LLC, a Washington, D.C. based security consulting firm. Ridge spent time campaigning with Senator John McCain during his 2008 bid for the presidency and was believed by some to have been in the short list of potential running mates.   Governor Howard Dean served as the 79th Governor of Vermont from 1991 to 2003 and Chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) from 2005 to 2009.  Before entering politics, Dean earned his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in 1978. Dean was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives as a Democrat in 1982 and was elected lieutenant governor in 1986. Both were part-time positions that enabled him to continue practicing medicine.  Dean was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the U.S. Presidential Election, 2004.  Dean was the top fundraiser and front runner, prior to the Iowa caucus, for the Democratic Party presidential nomination. Although his presidential campaign was unsuccessful, Dean pioneered Internet-based fundraising and grassroots organizing. which is centered on mass appeal to small donors which is more cost efficient than the more expensive contacting of fewer potential larger donors, and promotes active participatory democracy among the general public.  His implementation of the fifty-state strategy as head of the DNC are considered significant factors behind Democratic victories in the 2006 congressional elections and the 2008 presidential election.   Cats' Roundtable local edition 8:30AM   Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney is a member of the U.S. Representative for New York's 12th congressional district.  Democratic.  She has worked tirelessly to assure the 9/11 First Responders receive their just benefits,  9/11 Health Zadroga act. Family leave has been a primary issue of the Congresswoman since first elected in 1993.  Recently Congresswoman has been advocating the installation of a Panda bear exhibit in New York City whether it be Central Park or the Bronx Zoo system.  She has met with Chinese officials and received an agreement for the bears but has yet to get City cooperation.  Also one of the Congresswoman’s current projects is the Women’s Museum in Washington DC.  After years of effort she and her co-backers have received approval and are moving forward.    Eric Schneiderman is the 65th and current New York Attorney General a Democrat.  Before being elected Attorney General, Schneiderman previously represented the 31st District in the New York State Senate, the upper Westside of Manhattan.  Schneiderman is a former Chairman of the Democratic Senate Campaign Committee.   His initiatives include a new "Taxpayer Protection Unit" specifically designed to go after corruption in state contracts, pension fund rip-offs, and large-scale tax cheats.   Just this week, February 20, 2015, the Attorney General sued UPS for delivering untaxed cigarettes to New York.  Just this week, Attorney General Schneiderman was appointed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to be the special prosecutor in the case of police officers killing a civilian.  This came on the heels of several incidents not only here in New York (Eric Garner, Staten Island) but across the country.   Nassau District Attorney Madeline Singas is the acting District Attorney of Nassau County.  She was chosen to succeed former prosecutor Kathleen Rice who was recently elected to Congress.  Madeline supervises more than 350 employees and prosecutes 30,000 criminal cases each year.  Singas was an assistant district attorney with two decades of experience prosecuting sex crimes and instances of child abuse, domestic violence and homicide. Madeline also has significant experience managing prosecutorial resources, personnel, and investigative decision-making. For the past five years, Madeline has been the bureau chief of DA Rice’s Special Victims Bureau, where her dramatic transformation of the bureau has not only led to high-profile trial convictions of murderers and rapists, but also higher conviction rates and tougher jail sentences for sex predators and domestic and child abusers.  She began her career in the Queens County District Attorney’s Office in 1991. Bowery Mission.  Veronica Kelly, wife of former NYPD Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, and the CEO of the Bowery Mission David Jones join the Cats’ Roundtable this morning to talk about the corporate fundraising program with Grisitedes Supermarkets.  The program entitled, “Hope Meal” will asked participants to make a small donation to feed a homeless person.   As been recently reported, homelessness and hunger is at an all time high here in the City.  The Bowery Mission is a rescue mission and shelter located in lower Manhattan. The Bowery Mission was founded in 1879 by the Reverend Albert Gleason Ruliffson and his wife.  It provides food, medical services and employment assistance to the working poor and homeless men women and children.  At night The Bowery Mission opens its chapel to serve as an emergency shelter for homeless men.
