Dear Jolters, Big Jim Geraghty is out these next few days, no doubt hawking his terrific new book Heavy Lifting: Grow Up, Get a Job, Raise a Family, and Other Manly Advice. Get yours if you've yet to. So we'll pinch hit today, and mark the occasion by honoring Cliff "Heathcliff" Johnson, who in his colorful career smacked 20 pinch home runs (three with my beloved Yankees). Speaking of smacking . . . National Review's new editorial, "The Exxon Inquisition," does just that to Empire State liberals. It begins: Having failed in their shakedown of Chevron, New York Democrats are turning their attention to Exxon, with the office of state attorney general Eric Schneiderman attempting to prosecute Exxon for holding naughty views on the subject of global warming. . . . This is a flat-out campaign aimed at punishing a corporation for having a policy disagreement with Democrats. So read it please, and share it. Now I will ask only two more things of you, reading wise. Yes, there is so much great stuff to see on NRO, but how about you try these two if you have limited time? Jay Nordlinger's essay -- "What Is Conservatism?" -- is a triumph of prose and thought. So is Andy McCarthy's sharp-as-heck analysis, "Ted Cruz Is Right: The Muslim Brotherhood Is a Terrorist Organization." Read it, share it. That's it. To quote Roberto Duran: "No mas." Except to say, Jim, hurry back. Best, Jack Fowler Publisher National Review |
