NYC Shelter System is not Good Counsel

Dear National Review Reader,

When Your Tail is Caught Between Your Legs

A year ago NY City Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke about NY City being a Tale of Two Cities and announced more would be done for the homeless of New York. Sadly, not much has changed, especially for homeless pregnant women who often are told by PATH to go back to where they last were, even if that location was rampant with drug abuse or the dangerous scene of domestic violence.

His Honor has also done nothing to protect the lives of the innocent unborn whose body parts, as we have learned over the past year, are being illegally sold by Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion provider. Thanks to the Center for Medical Progress and their undercover videotaping there is now no excuse for any municipality, including the City of New York, to fund this organization which preys on the poor and extorts every dollar possible in the killing of children right up until the last trimester when their organs are most valuable. Do not hold your breath if you are waiting for a NY City budget cut in this area.

Yes, there may be two or more tales of New York City but it appears Mayor de Blasio has ignored one which involves the charitable works of so many who do, without government help, support the homeless and those facing crisis pregnancies.

Since 1985 more than 6,500 women and children have found a home, sustenance, educational assistance and more at Good Counsel homes. Tens of thousands more have been assisted online and via their toll free helpline (800-723-8331). Admission is based upon need and no one checks your religion or political party when you enter Good Counsel's program.

Check them out online at: www.GoodCounselHomes.Org. Five homes are open throughout the greater New York City area. Donations to Good Counsel are tax-deductible and will help you sleep better at night knowing that you have in fact done something to help the disadvantaged and homeless.

Perhaps the next time the mayor is removing the tail between his legs following a speech he can recall the phrase: Actions speak louder than words.
