Governor George Pataki
served three terms as the 53rd governor of New York State - from 1995 through 2006.  Governor Pataki led New York State through the attacks of September 11th and its aftermath.  Widely known for his protection of over one million acres of open space - the most in New York State's history - Governor Pataki balanced his pro-business philosophy with award-winning - cutting-edge policies in the renewable energy and environmental fields.  At the end of his twelve years as Governor - New York State had its lowest rate of welfare dependency in over 40 years - its lowest rate of violent crime in over 40 years - had cut state taxes by over $140 billion - had almost 700 -000 more private sector jobs - its highest credit rating in over 40 years - and billions of dollars in surplus.  

8:46:43: Chief of the New York City Fire Department's 1st Battalion, Joseph Pfeifer, makes the first fire department radio message advising the FDNY Manhattan Fire Dispatch Office of the crash.

Bob Kerrey is Managing Director at Allen & Company. From 2001 to 2011 Mr. Kerrey was President of kerreyThe New School. From 1989 to 2001 Senator Kerrey was the US Senator from Nebraska.  He is a member of the 9/11 Commission. Prior to his Senate service - Mr. Kerrey served as Nebraska’s Governor.  Before entering politics he was a businessman who helped build a chain of restaurants and health clubs employing over 1000 people.  Mr. Kerrey served as a U.S. Navy SEAL during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism.  In 1992 - Senator Kerrey ran for the Democratic nomination for President.
 
9:03:02Flight 175 crashes at about 590 mph (950 km/h, 264 m/s or 513 knots) into the south face of the South Tower (2 WTC) of the World Trade Center, between floors 77 and 85.
 
bratton_190Commissioner Bill Bratton is the New York City Police Commissioner.   Commissioner resigned the week of August 1, 2016 to enter private practice.  In terms of terrorism, Bratton was the “Top Cop” in the world.  He has previously served as the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department (BPD) (1993-1994) - New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner (1994–1996) - and Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) (2002–2009).  The newly elected New York City in 2013 - Mayor Bill de Blasio announced that Bratton would return to the post of Police Commissioner in New York City.  Commissioner Bratton is having another successful run as Police Commissioner.  Crime is down - violent crime is way down.  The Commissioner has faced a number of challenges during this tenure but he has remained very loyal to the Mayor and faced down problems with professionalism and good judgement.   Commissioner Bratton and his team are considered the leading world experts in terrorism and terrorist protection. 

9:37:46: Flight 77 crashes into the western side of the Pentagon at 530 mph (853 km/h, 237 m/s, or 460 knots) and starts a violent fire. 

rossiniMark Rossini was an FBI Special Agent who had a distinguished career working on complex criminal cases and counterterrorism matters. He has worked on international terrorism matters concerning the FARC, ETA, Hezbollah, and Al-Qaeda. Mr. Rossini served as an FBI representative to the CIA’s Counterterrorist Center (CTC) at CIA Headquarters and he was one of the founding executives of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC).  Mr. Rossini briefed the Threat Matrix at the daily 5 p.m. meetings on worldwide counterterrorism operations at the CIA to then Director of Central Intelligence, George J. Tenet, and the executive leadership of the CIA.  Mr. Rossini is now a counter terrorism consultant.
 

 

9:58:59  The South Tower of the World Trade Center collapses, 56 minutes after the impact of Flight 175.

John Negroponte is a British - American diplomat of Greek ancestry. He is currently a research fellownegroponte and lecturer in international affairs at Yale University's Jackson Institute for Global Affairs. Prior to this appointment - he served as the United States Deputy Secretary of State and as the first ever Director of National Intelligence.  Negroponte served in the United States Foreign Service from 1960 to 1997. From 1981 to 1996 - he had tours of duty as United States ambassador in Honduras - Mexico - and the Philippines. After leaving the Foreign Service - he subsequently served in the Bush Administration as U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations from 2001 to 2004 - and was ambassador to Iraq from June 2004 to April 2005.

Daniel Nigro fdny10:03:11United Airlines Flight 93 is crashed by its hijackers and passengers at 583 mph (926 km/h, 272 m/s, or 509 knots), due to fighting in the cockpit 80 miles (129 km) southeast of Pittsburgh in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.

Daniel Nigro was appointed Fire Commissioner in 2014.  He is the 33rd Fire Commissioner in the history of the City.  Commissioner Nigro is only the sixth individual to hold every rank in the Department in the agency's history. Commissioner Nigro was appointed as a Firefighter on November 29 - 1969 - rising through the ranks to the top uniformed position as Chief of Department on September 12 - 2001.  Commissioner Nigro was appointed Chief of Department when Chief Peter J. Ganci - Jr. was killed the previous day during the attack on the World Trade Center.  Commissioner Nigro is the son of retired FDNY Captain Daniel Nigro.  A native New Yorker - he resides in Queens.

Commissioner Tom Von Essen On September 11 - 2001 he and New York's Bravest were at Ground Zero within minutes - saving thousands of lives and facing unimaginable obstacles and challenges in two of the tallest buildings in the world.  Perhaps no one knows more the bravery and tragic losses of New York’s finest on the fateful day than Tom Von Essen.  Born in Brooklyn - he served active duty in the United States Naval Submarine Service and was stationed at the submarine base in Groton - Connecticut.  He was appointed the 30th Fire Commissioner of the City of New York by Mayor Giuliani.    In 2002 he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II.    Strong of Heart: Life and death in the Fire Department of New York.
 
5:20:337 World Trade Center, a 47-story building, collapses.

Firefighter Stephen Gerard Siller, was the youngest of seven children born to Mae and George Siller. and with values instilled in him by his parents at an early age, he grew up to be an extraordinary individual and dedicated firefighter. At the age of eight, Stephen lost his father, and a year and a half later he also lost his mother.  On September 11, 2001, Stephen, was assigned to Brooklyn’s Squad 1, he had just finished his shift when he got word of the first plane hitting the Twin Towers over his scanner. and returned to Squad 1 to get his gear.  He drove his truck to the entrance of the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel, but it had already been closed for security purposes. Determined to carry out his duty, he strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back, and raced on foot through the tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave up his life while saving others.  The Tunnel to Tower race every year, practiced cross the Country raises millions to build home for handicapped military veterans.  http://tunneltotowers.org
