Former Navy Admiral James Stavridis retired Admiral in the U.S. Navy. He was the Supreme Allied Commander of the NATO Alliance in global operations from 2009 to 2013. He also served as Commander of U.S. Southern Command - with responsibility for all military operations in Latin America from 2006-2009. He was the Senior Military Assistant to Secretary of Defense and Secretary of the Navy (2001-2002). He is Chair of the Board - U.S. Naval Institute (2013-present.) Admiral Stavridis is the dean of The Fletcher School at Tufts University. The Fletcher School is oldest exclusively graduate school of international affairs in the United States. McCarthy joined the New York City Police Department in 1981 at age 22. He rose through the ranks and became Deputy Commissioner of Operations in 2000. McCarthy was in the middle of ground zero during the September 11 attacks, working closely with then-Mayor Rudy Giuliani to operate an emergency response command post. In 2006, McCarthy left his position with the New York Police Department to take over the Police Department of Newark, New Jersey. McCarthy presided over a sharp reduction in crime during his tenure in Booker's administration in Newark with homicides declining 28 percent, shootings declining 46 percent, and overall crime declining 21 percent. In early 2011McCarthy was hired by Mayor Rahm Emanuel to take over the Chicago Police Department shortly after Emanuel's election. McCarthy was terminated by Mayor Emanuel following public dispute over policing methods. | Is anyone safe from cyber attack? Leo Taddeo is a former FBI agent and an expert on cyber security. He was Special Agent in Charge of the Special Operations/Cyber Division of the FBI’s New York Office. He Taddeo led more than 400 agents and professional support staff in cyber investigations, surveillance operations, information technology support and crisis management. Taddeo served as a Section Chief in the International Operations Division, where he managed FBI operations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Taddeo has held various roles of increasing responsibilities in the field, including supervising a joint FBI/New York City Police Department Joint Terrorism Task Force and serving as the Legal Attaché in Rome, Italy. Currently he is Chief Security Officer (CSO) at Cryptzone, a leading provider of dynamic, context-aware network, application and content security solutions. Taddeo served as a tank officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He succeeded Commissioner Bill Bratton September 2016. Prior to his appointment as Police Commissioner, O'Neill served as NYPD's Chief of Department, the highest uniformed position in the department, from 2014-2016. O’Neill joined the New York City Transit Police in 1983, and began his career as a patrolman in Transit District 1. He was promoted to Sergeant in September 1987 and to Lieutenant in April 1991. Between 1995 – 2014, Commissioner O’Neill received one promotion after another, 1997 Captain, 2001 Deputy Inspector, 2003 Inspector, 2005 Deputy Chief and in 2014 Chief of Patrol and that same year Chief of Department. Commissioner O’Neill has received wide praise in the short few months since his appointment in September. | Felons committing crimes while furloughed for drug treatment Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis - a Republican was elected to the New York State Assembly on in 2010. Her district includes all of Staten Island and a large portion of Brooklyn. Assemblywoman Malliotakis was recently named the State Chairman for the Marco Rubio Presidential campaign. She is the daughter of immigrants - her father from Greece and her mother a Cuban exile of the Castro dictatorship. She was the first Hispanic-American elected from Richmond County. She was re-elected to her third term in November 2014 with an overwhelming 73 percent of the vote. Recovery from Hurricane Sandy has become a hallmark of her tenure as an elected official. Nicole’s district - which encompasses the eastern shore of Staten Island - was among the hardest hit by the October 2012 storm. She is also a passionate advocate for animal rights and strengthening animal cruelty laws. | The Union that keeps the City moving John Samuelsen has been the President of the 42,000-member Transport Workers Union Local 100 since 2009. He is also the International Vice President. John began working for the New York City Transit Authority in 1993. He started assigned to a Track Gang working out of the crew room at 45th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn. Very soon he was elected as a Shop Steward. From 2001 to 2006 he served as Chair, Track Safety Committee, and Chair of the Track Division. Samuelson along with then union President, Roger Toussaint, were the principle organizers of the 2005 transit strike.
