Dear Friend, Sometimes we get consumed by politics. The plotting, parties, and primaries, the stratagems, spins, and tweets, the debates, elections, and their aftermath, whether glorious or tearful -- didn't they all come at us relentlessly? Didn't they seem to merge into one huge enchilada that consumed our constant attention? Let's admit it: The year now ending was at times . . . exhausting! With the hurrahs and the recounts fading as we approach the 31st, If you're like me, you're looking ahead to a 2017 where conservatives -- under National Review Institute's guidance and leadership -- can take a step back from the strictly political to assess our movement's standing, and to give some concentrated attention to what is central to our cause and our future. Namely, ideas. As it has done after major elections starting in 1993, NRI (the non-profit sister organization will once again be hosting an important Ideas-Summit, this one scheduled for this March 16-17 (begorrah!) in Washington, DC, at the beautiful Mandarin Oriental Hotel. A powerful and diverse lineup of speakers -- representing the very best that the liberty movement has to offer -- will be on hand to provide and discuss insightful, forward-looking ideas. This year's confab will build on the momentum from NRI's 2015 Ideas Summit. In the spirit of Bill Buckley, participants in our 2017 Summit will diagnose the current challenges facing our nation and proffer practical solutions for building bridges, sparking productive conversations, making amends, and forging a path forward for conservatism, which is sure to remain under relentless attack by multiculturalists and their media amplifiers. Conservatism stands at a great crossroads -- there is a real sense that an incredible opening is before us. We (that means you) need to assemble and discuss -- how best to take advantage of what may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The NRI 2017 Ideas Summit is the place where this can and will happen. This event, and all the other important idea-based work that NRI does -- the Regional Partnership Events, NRI On Campus, Regional Fellows Program, funding the work of the NRI Fellows (NR's best talent) -- is all made possible by support from people like . . . you. Would you consider a tax-deductible, end-of-the-year contribution right now to NRI to help underwrite what will indeed be a very consequential gathering? Your gift of 100, 250, 500, or 1,000 or more will be of tremendous importance. Please also find a way, if you can, to help support this NRI as it plans this forthcoming event that could have a major impact on our movement, for years to come. Make your generous (and deeply appreciated!) contribution to NRI here. Happy New Year!
