Dear Friend,

And it is indeed almost over. Spring ends today, and so with it will end the NRO Spring Webathon, which seeks to raise $264,000 for three main purposes

  1. To help fund the rebuild of NRO (the price tag for that is $500,000-plus),

  2. To underwrite some of the costs of the expensive Mann v. National Review case in which we are fighting to defend everyone's right to free speech, and

  3. To fund a sorely needed editor position (we produce a lot of copy every day on NRO, and some of it needs a masterful lookover).

As I type this, the Webathon has raised $255,694. Merci beaucoup to the thousands who have given big (someone donated $25,000!) and small ($5.00, but that we know packs the punch of the Widow's Mite). Every cent was generous, and selfless.

We hope to raise a final $8,000 to meet our goal. Help us do that and then we can all go on . . . well, I'll let Connie Francis tell you.

If you love NR, and have wanted to pony up, and have been putting it off, please consider this your opportunity to do right by your conscience, and, more importantly, by the principles on whose behalf NR battles. To contribute via NR, click here. If you prefer to contribute by check, please make yours payable to "National Review" and mail it to National Review, ATTN: Webathon, 215 Lexington Avenue, New York, NY 10016. And if you prefer PayPal, you can donate here.

God bless and many thanks. And Happy Summer!

Jack Fowler
Vice President, National Review
