Dear Friend,

These too are trying times. And times demanding action.

About? About the determined leftist assault on those things that are central to our Republic's founding, central to the essence of this successful experiment, America – those Creator-endowed rights that are unalienable. An attack on hallowed and fundamental things – free speech, free worship, open debate, tolerance, due process, and more – that are good and just and therefore despised by the liberal Thought Police who shoot first, by the multicultural misfits who control our campuses, by the social justice warriors who run amok over so many aspects of our culture.

This likely has you . . . sickened. Frustrated. Worried. And you should be. But as Bill Buckley would counsel, do not despair: I bear good news.

First: You should also be aware of efforts by National Review Institute to fight on your behalf, on the behalf of future generations (your kids, your grandkids, and theirs too), on behalf of freedom and America. NRI is launching the Center for Unalienable Rights, to focus meaningful efforts in this critical battle. The Institute is making NRI fellow David French the Center's point man, and for a very good reason: David is considered one of America's most articulate and consequential conservative voices in defense of Liberty.

Over the next months, as the Center comes into true fruition, David will be traveling to the hot spots of the battle against determined multiculturalism – namely, college campuses – where he will defend free speech and invigorate students who have been besieged by indoctrinating leftist professors. In addition to his regular writings on the topic, he will continue to expand his already acclaimed podcast, The Liberty Files, and work with NRI staff to join with state-based conservative groups and think tanks who are at the forefront of fighting local leftist efforts to grow the aggrandized and insatiable state, to destroy our moral fiber and fabric, to desecrate our traditions and norms, to appease their gluttonous appetite for power, to ensure their role as a 21st century vanguard of the proletariat.

Second: NRI has commenced a short-term effort to fund part of the Center's efforts, and is happy to announce that a generous friend – who feels passionately about the need to protect our key liberties – has offered a matching grant of $100,000. To date, the campaign has raised some $40,000. If the goal is met through the contributions of kind friends of NR, of NRI, and of free speech, the matching grant will kick in. Meaning each dollar donated from this point on could result in two towards this vital effort. The next $60,000 in donations will have double the impact.

Likely? Well, our fingers are crossed, and we are saying our prayers. We encourage. But success depends on your help.

So: Please consider a generous contribution (tax-deductible) to NRI to support the Center for Unalienable Rights, and all that it hopes to do, needs to do, must do, will do on behalf of our fundamental freedoms. You can make that donation here.

Our effort to raise $100,000 will end on July 31st. That's next Monday. We appreciate the kindness of those who have contributed, from good people who believe our Nation has reached a defining point. Some 241 years after America's first trying times, there remains a need for patriots. These people are such.

God bless them. And you too, even should you choose not to donate. But then, we are counting on you to do so. Also counting on your help: our unalienable rights.

Help us reach our goal. Make your contribution here.

Best,

Jack Fowler

P.S.: Here is a 2015 essay – it caused a major national stir – that David wrote about a blatantly unconstitutional law that sought to criminally suppress free speech and due process. It's called Wisconsin's Shame: The 'John Doe' Investigations, and it is very well worth your time if you have not yet read it. This shows you the power of his pen and the consequence of it (the uproar created helped lead to the legislature's stripping the law of its abuses).
