Crushing on Vs. Crushing Well there is that sort of crush – like the kind Mr. and Mrs. Founder had for each other (although at this moment he seemed to have his attention directed to another crush, on J.S. Bach). We miss them both! But as Kyle Smith advocates quite persuasively today on the NRO home page, we're more interested in having a crush on weak liberal thinking. That's pretty important in these parts. Indeed, it's sorta the reason why Mr. Founder . . . founded NR. Ingesting the day's headlines and the liberal spin on them via the news media, you often probably find yourself thinking, "Hang on, THAT can't be right." But do you have time to delve into the details and locate the defective assumption or flawed reasoning? Not necessarily. That's where National Review comes in. With a glance at our Web site any morning or lunchtime, you can find out what my brilliant colleagues David French or Kevin D. Williamson or Andrew C. McCarthy have to offer about the latest leftist balderdash. They'll give you the succinct, elegant arguments you need to crush weak liberal claims. Often they can knock out an entire misguided line of thinking with a single sentence. Amen Kyle (who, by the way, is one of the very best things to happen to NR in ages – he is a colossal talent). And whether written, or uttered, our objective in the ongoing #30DaysHathBucktember Fall 2017 webathon – to which you can and should donate here – is to raise $200,000 to partially fund some vital projects, such as a major expansion of our podcast programming, which will bring the conservative wisdom of NR to many more (millions we expect) people on a regular basis. NRO's campaign has four main objectives to crush weak liberal thinking. They're spelled out here in detail. In short, they are 1. Hiring a tech guru for NRO's expanding podcast operation, (Charlie Cooke provides an excellent rundown of our plans) 2. Obtaining related video software (it will result in significant new income), 3. Hiring a revenue officer (another big cost but with a big financial payoff), and 4. Expanding our summer intern project. It's all important stuff. And all achievable, with your help. As Kyle writes, "Your donation might be just crumbs on top of a mountain at a well-funded museum or university but here it actually matters." As the saying goes, damn straight. Help us crush the left and its weak thinking. Please make a generous financial donation here (if you leave comments, be assured we take them seriously). Contribute via PayPal here if you prefer that method. And then there is always the old school way of helping out: Send a check, made payable to "National Review" to our new offices at 19 West 44th Street, 17th Floor, New York, NY 10036. If you have already given, well, of course we say thank you, but maybe we should admit that, well, we're developing a crush on you. |
