Heritage's next president

John,

I'm excited to announce that Kay Coles James will be the next President of The Heritage Foundation.

Kay, who formally takes the reins at Heritage on January 1, brings a wealth of experience to the role, not the least of which comes from her 12 years of service as a member of The Heritage Foundation's Board of Trustees. She is uniquely qualified for this role, with executive management experience in senior federal, state, and nonprofit roles, deeply impactful policy experience in the advocacy and academic communities, and frontline experience in the fights for life, empowerment, and equality.

Over her 30-year career, Kay has served as a senior advisor on President Donald Trump's transition team, director of the Office of Personnel Management under President George W. Bush, a dean at Regent University, Virginia's secretary of health and human resources, and as a member of the Virginia state board of education -- among many other prestigious roles, including in the Reagan administration.

Just as importantly, Kay is a lifelong conservative grassroots activist who has unapologetically fought for the values we hold in common at the local, state, and national level.

Her unanimous selection by Heritage's Board of Trustees follows an exhaustive nationwide search. With the input of Heritage members, our Trustees sought out someone who would be committed to Heritage's conservative principles, to our legacy of rigorous policy research, and to draining the swamp in Washington. She will continue Heritage's fight for the timeless American principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense.

Under Kay's leadership, and thanks to support from you and more than half a million Heritage members, we will move forward with an unwavering commitment to develop and promote innovative, effective policy solutions grounded in conservative ideals.

To ensure a smooth transition, I will remain at Heritage in an advisory role through January 2018. I will also continue to serve on the Board of Trustees, as chairman of our Asian Studies Center, and the Chung Ju-yung fellow.

You, Kay, and I have a lot left to accomplish, and a tremendous opportunity to advance our vision for America in 2018 and beyond.

Thank you for all you do for Heritage and the conservative cause. Now let's get to work.

And Merry Christmas to all!

Onward!

Edwin J. Feulner
President
