Joy Reid Promoted Alex Jones’ 9/11 Conspiracy Documentary on Her Old Blog

MSNBC personality Joy Reid encouraged readers of her now-defunct blog to view a documentary that accuses the U.S. government of orchestrating the 9/11 attacks, Buzzfeed News reported Wednesday.

In a March 2006 blog post entitled "The Official Story," archived by the WayBack Machine, Reid linked to the 80 minute viral web documentary "Loose Change 9/11," which was co-produced by InfoWars’ Alex Jones and released in 2005.

"The fundamental question is: do you believe the official story of 9/11?" Reid’s blog post reads. "If you do, great. If you don’t, then everything that happened after that is called into serious question. Even if you’re agnostic, or you tend to believe that al-Qaida attacked the World Trade Center and Pentagon and that the government had no warning such a thing could happen, it’s worth taking a second look."

Reid continued to engage in 9/11 conspiracy-mongering in a subsequent March 2006 blog post entitled "Flashback: September 30, 2001," which suggests that the authorities were able to identify the 9/11 terrorists in a suspiciously short amount of time.

"For that matter, why did any of the WTV [sic] buildings fall…?" Reidblog states. "Somehow I think it will be a generation before we get the full story on what happened on 9/11?" the blog post reads, referencing a question that has been widely posed so-called by 9/11 truthers about why World Trade Center tower 7 fell despite not having been hit by a plane.

Reid’s old blog came under scrutiny in December after researchers exposed a series of anti-gay posts she authored in the mid 2000’s.

The "AM Joy" host initially apologized in December after the initial batch of problematic posts were uncovered, but later claimed that a separate group of posts, revealed in April, were the product of an unknown hacker’s smear campaign.

MSNBC and Reid’s attorney have both cited an ongoing FBI investigation into the alleged hacking campaign in order to substantiate her claims, but the FBI has never confirmed the existence of such a probe. Jonathan Nichols, the independent cybersecurity expert Reid hired to back up her claims, previously provided information to the FBI that prompted an investigation that one source characterized to Buzzfeed as a waste of time.
