Trump Comes Out in Defense of Kavanaugh: Asks for Police Records of Alleged Attack

President Trump defended his Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh Friday morning on Twitter and called on the woman accusing him of attempted rape to produce police filings to prove her claim.

“Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a fine man, with an impeccable reputation, who is under assault by radical left wing politicians who don't want to know the answers, they just want to destroy and delay. Facts don't matter. I go through this with them every single day in D.C.,” Trump wrote.

California psychology professor Christine Blasey Ford has accused Kavanaugh of forcing her down on a bed and trying to take off her clothes when he was drunk at a high school party when they were both minor teenagers. She believes the attack was an attempted rape.

“I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents,” wrote Trump, who has been fairly reserved in his comments on the allegation up until now. “I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place!”

Trump also questioned the timing of the accusation.

“The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn't someone call the FBI 36 years ago?”

Ford has indicated she may testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday but wants Kavnaugh to testify before she does. She previously requested the FBI investigate her claim before she would testify, but the bureau declined to do so, saying the allegation does not involve a potential federal crime.

"As you are aware, she's been receiving death threats which have been reported to the FBI and she and her family have been forced out of their home," Ford's lawyer Debra Katz wrote to the committee. "She wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety.

Republicans are anxious to hear Ford’s testimony so they can move forward to a vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation while Democrats accuse them of rushing the process. However, Senator Dianne Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the committee, had a letter from Ford weeks ago detailing the claim, but the senator did not produce the allegation until after a week of confirmation hearings.
