Police Respond to Shooting at Pittsburgh Synagogue

At least eight people were killed and a number of others injured Saturday morning in a shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh.

The suspect, a white male, surrendered at the scene, according to a local CBS affiliate. At least two of the responding officers were reportedly shot.

Commander Jason Lando told CNN there were "multiple casualties" and cautioned area residents against leaving their homes.

"It is imperative that the neighbors in the community surrounding the Tree of Life synagogue stay in their houses and shelter in place," Lando said. "Do not come out of your home right now. It is not safe."

President Trump said in a tweet that he was aware of the incident and urged residents to remain indoors.

"People in Squirrel Hill area should remain sheltered," Trump said. "Looks like multiple fatalities. Beware of active shooter. God Bless All!"
