A joint report by Western and Chinese scientists contracting with the WHO states that transmission of coronavirus from bats to humans is the most likely origin of the pandemic, the Associated Press reported on Monday.
The report is expected to be released on Tuesday and was compiled by a team of scientists appointed by the WHO. The researchers propose further investigation of every hypothesis of the pandemic’s origins, except for the possibility that coronavirus leaked from a laboratory in Wuhan, according to a draft document obtained by the AP.
“We've got real concerns about the methodology and the process that went into that report, including the fact that the government in Beijing apparently helped to write it,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken told CNN on Thursday.
U.S. intelligence has reportedly assessed that the coronavirus may have leaked from a lab in Wuhan. The city is home to the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the Wuhan Centers for Disease Control.
