My husband Mark can only leave his prison cell one hour a day because he could be murdered...

The Star News Network

Dear Friend,
Tori Taylor and Family
My husband Mark can only leave his prison cell one hour a day because he could be murdered...

...it’s all because Mark, a state trooper, was wrongly convicted of manslaughter for stopping a dangerous suspect from terrorizing Detroit’s streets.

We need to win Mark’s appeal and get him out immediately. Please click here to donate to his legal defense fund.

Mark’s unjust confinement have just been devastating to Samantha, our 7-year old daughter.

Samantha has spent her last two birthdays, two Christmases, first days of school, and so much more without Mark.

In fact, because COVID-19 shut down visitors to prison, Samantha hasn’t seen Mark in about a year.

Mark is the greatest father a woman could want for her children. He was a hands-on dad and he and Samantha were two peas in a pod.

Mark did things like teaching Samantha how to sew. Now Samantha sleeps with an old handkerchief with sewing marks on it from when Mark was teaching her.

I pray every night that Mark survives his ordeal of being wrongly convicted — and that we win the appeal we’re so vigorously working to win.

I so desperately want Samantha to have her daddy back.

Mark was unjustly taken away from his family for stopping an ATV that was rocketing down Detroit’s city streets and risking killing innocent people.

It was the suspect who crashed his ATV and sadly passed. Mark is innocent.

Unfortunately, the Wayne County Prosecutor is an anti-cop extremist who was looking for an officer to throw to the mob.

So she charged Mark with Second-Degree Murder for doing his job! Can you believe it?

Even worse, Mark’s name was leaked to the press. Soon we were being harassed by the media and the deceased’s family started making death threats against our entire family — including Samantha!

As outrageous as this story is so far, it gets worse.

You see, Mark had his first trial in late 2018 that resulted in a hung jury.

A hung jury is a sign that there’s no case there. And there isn’t!

The second trial was a circus.

The judge, who is elected official and needed to appease the deceased’s family, did not allow for a fair trial.

From the start, the jury pool was openly hostile and could be heard yelling “F*ck the Police” and “Black Lives Matter.”

During the trial, the jury was not sequestered. They would sit in the hallway with the deceased’s family. One juror was even caught talking to the mother of the deceased and wasn’t thrown off the jury!

In addition, the prosecutor failed to turn over key exculpatory evidence to Mark’s defense team.

And one prosecutor tried to intimidate a defense witness by calling him at home and suggesting he “misremembered” what he saw.

They couldn’t convict Mark the first time because that was a fair trial.

So the prosecutor and judge made sure Mark’s second trial wasn’t fair so they could get the outcome they wanted...

...and sadly they did.

I tremble as I write this and remember the moment when the jury in this kangaroo court pronounced Mark guilty.

The only thing he was guilty of was trying to protect the people of Detroit from a dangerous criminal.

At sentencing, the judge decided to make an example of Mark and gave him more time than the guidelines — 5 to 15 years!

Mark is an innocent man who is being punished so an anti-cop prosecutor and judge can win political brownie points.

It’s outrageous!

There were so many things that were done unlawfully in Mark’s second trial that we have a real good shot at winning the appeal...

...if we have the legal team with the expertise we need to lead this effort.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you to ask for support for the National Center for Police Defense (NCPD).

NCPD helps innocent police officers and military personnel who’ve been unfairly charged for their actions.

And they’re a godsend.

Because they don’t receive a dime from the government. One hundred percent of their funding comes from private donations.

Will you please send NCPD a tax-deductible donation right now of $15, $20, $25 or more so they can help Mark win his appeal?

Your gift could make the difference between Mark coming home for next Christmas and being there for our daughter Samantha...

...or him being locked up for more than a decade with felons who are itching to kill him.

Samantha misses her father so much, and yet the other day she worried that she couldn’t remember what her father looked like!

Can you imagine my heartbreak?

I’ve filled her room with photos of Mark, but the photos are old.

If we don’t get justice for Mark, when they finally do release him after many years wrongly locked up, it will be like meeting a stranger for Samantha.

No daughter should suffer when her father is innocent and being wrongly punished.

I’m praying you’ll help NCPD right now with a gift of $15, $20, $25, $50, $100 or more to help Mark win his appeal.

From the bottom of my heart, and on behalf of Mark and our daughter Samantha, I thank you. God bless!

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Sarah Bessner
