Morning Jolt: Joe Biden’s Quiet Feud with America’s Allies

On the menu today: Maybe you care about trade policy, maybe you don't. You probably do care that Joe Biden gets assessed and judged by a ludicrously lighter standard than Donald Trump did, and that Biden can keep Trump's protectionist trade policies in place with barely a grumble from the mainstream media. What's more, Biden ran in 2020 as the guy who could restore America's relationships with key European allies . . . and now, European capitals and Ottawa see the Inflation Reduction Act as an underhanded effort to steal green-energy jobs from their companies. Oh, and a bit of personal professional news at the end.

When you're a Democratic president, you can antagonize European allies, and most of the U.S. media will yawn.

Most European leaders disliked Donald Trump for a host of reasons, but particularly because of the Trump administration's tariffs, protectionist philosophy, and overall hostility to existing trade agreements.
