Breaking: Coast Guard Discovers Debris Field Near Titanic in Potential Breakthrough for Sub Search
|
The U.S. Coast Guard announced that an underwater remotely-operated vehicle discovered a debris field near the Titanic wreck site Thursday morning, in what may be a breakthrough in the search for a submarine that went missing in the area days earlier.
It’s unclear if the debris field is connected to submarine, which carries five passengers and went missing Sunday hours after beginning its descent to the Titanic. The Coast Guard will hold a press conference Thursday afternoon to "discuss findings from the Horizon Arctic's ROV on the sea floor near the Titanic."
The development comes as the five missing submarine passengers would be nearing the 96-hour deadline at which their oxygen is expected to run out.
A Canadian surveillance aircraft detected “underwater noises in the search area” on Wednesday after searching through a corridor of the North Atlantic Sea.
