Breaking: Donald Trump Returns to Twitter, Now X, with Georgia Mugshot
|
Donald Trump returned to the social-media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Thursday night, sharing an image of his mugshot, captioned: “ELECTION INTERFERENCE. NEVER SURRENDER!”
The post is the former president’s first since January 8, 2021, when Trump announced that he had no intentions of attending Joe Biden’s inauguration on January 20, 2025.

On Thursday evening, Trump surrendered to authorities in Fulton County, Ga., on felony charges related to his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.
Trump arrived at the county jail slightly after 7:30 p.m. where he was booked, fingerprinted, and photographed for a mug shot. Video footage shows Trump's vehicle leaving the facility a short time later, having posted bond. "I have to start getting ready to head down to Atlanta, Georgia" to "get ARRESTED by a Radical Left, Lowlife District Attorney, Fani Willis," Trump said Thursday on his social-media platform Truth Social. "Arrest time: 7:30 p.m."
The former president is facing 13 felony charges, including conspiracy to commit forgery, filing false documents, solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, and violating the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Trump’s long-awaited return was shared by X’s chief executive, Elon Musk, calling it “Next-level” and has been viewed over 112 million times as of Friday morning.
Trump found himself in hot water with then-Twitter content moderators when he tweeted on January 8, 2021: “The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICAN GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”

Coming two days after the January 6 attack on the Capitol building, the social-media platform decided to permanently suspend Trump’s account, noting the “risk of further incitement of violence.” The following day, Facebook issued a similar ruling.
Last November, under the new ownership of Musk, Twitter reversed its indefinite ban on Trump and restored his account’s access following a public poll. “Reinstate former President Trump,” Musk tweeted on November 18, 2022. The following day, with a majority of respondents backing the measure, Twitter’s new chief executive confirmed the decision.
At the time, Trump’s reinstatement came alongside other formerly banned accounts, including Canadian public intellectual Jordan Peterson, Kathy Griffin, and the Babylon Bee, a conservative satirical magazine.
“The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi. Vox Dei,” Musk wrote at the time.
