Good morning,
Welcome to the news for independent thinkers

Trump stages massive Bronx rally, vows to 'make NYC great again' . . . Former President Donald Trump promised Thursday evening to "make New York City great again" during a raucous rally in the South Bronx, his first major campaign event in the state of his birth since 2016. "This is some turnout," Trump told a rowdy crowd in Crotona Park. "We have thousands of people outside the gate." The event was permitted to host up to 3,500 people, but thousands more gathered outside security checkpoints in the 127.5-acre public park in the hope of catching a glimpse of the 45th president or a snatch of his remarks. New York Post
There probably hasn't been a massive NYC rally for a Republican since Teddy Roosevelt.
Tom Cotton emerges as a top pick in Trump's VP Race . . . Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas has unexpectedly emerged as a top contender to become Donald J. Trump's running mate, a signal that the former president is heavily weighing experience and the ability to run a disciplined campaign over other factors. Mr. Cotton's ascendance comes as Mr. Trump's leading vice-presidential options have increasingly come into focus. Trump's other current favorites were Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota and three of Mr. Cotton's Senate colleagues: Marco Rubio of Florida, Tim Scott of South Carolina and J.D. Vance of Ohio. New York Times
DOJ inspectors general have liberal bias . . . The Office of Inspector General at the Justice Department is coming under fire after reports that some of its personnel have an apparent political bias against the targets of their investigations. The OIG says its mission is to "detect and deter fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct by conducting objective, independent, and impactful oversight of the Department, its programs, and the conduct of its personnel." However, recent reporting and documents reviewed by Fox News Digital reveal that some OIG personnel, including ones responsible for overseeing investigations into Trump administration political appointees, appear to have partisan bias. Well, you need the right people to wage lawfare . . .
Black voters could pave Trump's path to victory in battleground states . . . Former President Donald Trump is on track to win 20% or more of the Black vote in November, biting into President Biden's base and tipping the numbers in his favor nationally and, more importantly, in battleground states. An average of recent polls shows Mr. Trump leading in the seven swing states that will likely determine who will control the White House next year. The former president's advantage among voters averages from a bare lead of 0.1 percentage points in Wisconsin to nearly 5 points in Arizona, North Carolina and Nevada. Washington Times
52 Democrats join GOP as House votes to overturn D.C.'s noncitizen voting law . . . The House delivered a bipartisan rebuke Thursday to the District of Columbia over its new law allowing noncitizens — including illegal immigrants — to cast ballots in local elections. Republicans cast the vote as part of a broader attempt to defend citizenship against attempts to dilute its value and put citizens on par with temporary visitors and unauthorized migrants. Washington Times
But the vote shows a strong majority of House Democrats want noncitizen lawbreakers - aka "illegal immigrants" - to cast votes. How frightening is that? And the media say Republicans are extremists.
California state Senate passes 3 reparations bills after apologizing for slavery . . . The California state Senate passed three reparations bills on Tuesday, advancing a broader legislative effort to provide restitution to descendants of slaves. The bills passed this week are part of more than a dozen reparations bills proposed by the California Legislative Black Caucus earlier this year, ABC7 reported. The bills "issue an apology to Black Californians for the state's role in instituting slave laws and discriminatory practices since its founding," the outlet wrote. The bills will now head to the California State Assembly for votes. Fox News
Supreme Court restores white-dominated SC congressional district . . . A 6-3 Supreme Court approved a white-dominated congressional district enacted by South Carolina's Republican-controlled legislature, overruling a lower court that found the map divided Charleston County into different districts to reduce Black voters' political power. Because white voters heavily favor Republicans in South Carolina, the decision is a boon to the GOP incumbent, Rep. Nancy Mace, and good news for her party's fight to retain its narrow House majority in the November election. Wall Street Journal
Navarro defiant in jail . . . Peter Navarro, a former top White House adviser to Donald Trump, isn't interested in a pardon should "the boss" return to power. "I will not give the Supreme Court any excuse to duck what is otherwise a landmark constitutional case regarding the separation of powers and executive privilege," Navarro wrote to The Wall Street Journal from prison in Miami, referencing his appeal now before a federal appeals court. The 74-year-old is two months into a four-month sentence on a contempt of Congress conviction for stonewalling the House panel investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Wall Street Journal
Trump says Biden campaign demanding that they sit for the debate . . . Former President Donald Trump revealed during a rally in the Bronx on Thursday that one of his conditions for debating President Joe Biden next month will be that they stand up. Trump told a crowd of several thousand supporters at the event that he was asked to agree to a seated format for the CNN debate, scheduled for June 27. "Today they said, 'We'd like to set up tables so you sit down.' I said, 'I don't want to sit down for a debate. Let's go,'" Trump said. "So we're not sitting down. We're gonna be standing up for the debate." Washington Examiner
Actually, Biden may soon propose debating from bed.

Congress investigates Jordanians caught trying to sneak onto Marine base . . . A worrying incident earlier this month in which two Jordanian migrants were caught trying to push their way onto a Marine Corps base has members of Congress demanding answers into whether the men had terrorism ties. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, Tennessee Republican, said the incident reflects a "terrifying reality" about the border, where an unprecedented number of people on the terrorism watchlist have been detected trying to sneak into the U.S. from Mexico. Three more Israeli hostages' bodies found in Gaza . . . The bodies of three more Israeli hostages have been recovered from Gaza, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have said. They are those of Hanan Yablonka, Michel Nisenbaum and Orion Hernandez, it said in a statement. The IDF said the men's bodies were recovered from the northern town of Jabalia overnight in a joint operation with Israel's domestic intelligence agency. Orion Hernandez was the boyfriend of Shani Louk, whose body was among three recovered last week. BBC
Chat Xi PT; China's chatbot is a good comrade . . . Chinese artificial intelligence companies face two big challenges in trying to create chatbots on par with OpenAI's ChatGPT. One is overcoming U.S. export controls on buying leading-edge artificial intelligence chips. The other? Making sure the chatbot adheres to Xi Jinping Thought. Chinese authorities offered a reminder of how AI companies are expected to behave on Monday, when they announced a new chatbot trained on Xi's 14-point theory, which emphasizes socialist values and the party's leadership over everything in China. NCAA to pay athletes . . . The National Collegiate Athletic Association and the five most prominent athletic conferences agreed to a $2.77 billion settlement of a class-action lawsuit on Thursday, ushering in a new era of college sports in which schools can pay athletes directly. The move marks a dramatic shift for the NCAA, breaking with its century-old stance that college athletes are amateurs and therefore cannot share in any of the money they generate for their universities. The result is the creation of a system that will give Division I schools the ability to distribute roughly $20 million a year to their athletes, said people familiar with the matter. UCLA med school dean ignores affirmative action ban and terrorizes staff with DEI rules . . . The school has plunged from sixth to 18th place in the rankings since the appointment of Jennifer Lucerno as dean of admissions in June 2020 amid claims that the admissions bar for underrepresented minorities is now 'as low as you could possibly imagine'. The number of students failing tests on basic medical knowledge has increased 10-fold in some subjects since 2020. Among the disturbing anecdotes shared are of a student lashing out in an operating room and accusing a surgeon of picking on her after being asked to locate a major artery - a basic medical request. Migrants protest for more free stuff . . . A group of several dozen migrants joined liberal Democrat politicians in New York City on Thursday to protest for even more government benefits for "newcomers." The activists demanded an array of higher spending, including an additional $109 million for free legal services for immigrants, $5 million for language services, $25 million in support for two city programs for illegal aliens, and an end to policies that evict migrants from shelters after a prescribed time. Breitbart
Even liberal Portland, Oregon wants law and order now . . . People living and working in Portland, Oregon, told Fox News Digital they hope the ousting of their progressive district attorney will end what they view as a permissive attitude toward crime. "They wanted law and order," former Portland news videographer Andy Chandler said of voters' decision. "They didn't want this kind of hollow, empty gesture concept of law and order that I think a lot of us have lived with for four years." Nathan Vasquez, a longtime prosecutor, beat his boss, Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt, in Tuesday's nonpartisan primary election after running a tough-on-crime-campaign. Fox News

Wheel of Fortune gets explicit when a contestant guesses a hilariously wrong answer . . . Thursday's episode of the long-running game show featured a contestant named Tavaris, who buzzed in to venture a guess at a 'Phrase' puzzle. The four-word answer had no letters turned in the first four-letter word, the first letter I in the second two-letter word, the first and third letters T and E in the third three-letter word and the first and fourth letters B and T in the last four-letter word. Tavaris rung in and guessed, 'Right in the butt,' which caused the audience to gasp and laugh, while another contestant exclaimed, 'What?' Another contestant, Blake, thankfully came up with the correct response: 'This is the best.' Daily Mail
