Good morning,

Leading the News . . .
Kamala Harris to skip Netanyahu's address to Congress . . . Vice President Kamala Harris declined to preside over a Wednesday joint address to Congress by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu because she will be in Indiana for an event that was previously scheduled, per an aide. With Harris's absence, the task ordinarily would fall to Senate President pro tempore Patty Murray, D-Wash., but Murray reportedly refused to do so – and will instead be boycotting the address. Fox News
Johnson rips Harris for skipping Netanyahu speech — just like Biden did in 2015 . . . House Speaker Mike Johnson slammed Vice President Kamala Harris' "unconscionable" decision to skip Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress on Wednesday — much like President Biden did during the Israeli prime minister's last speech to US lawmakers in 2015. "President Biden, who was the vice president at the time, skipped that address just as our current vice president will be boycotting the speech," Johnson (R-La.) told The Post in an interview on the eve of Netanyahu's speech. "I believe that's unconscionable," said Johnson. New York Post
Protestors plan a "day of rage" Wednesday to mark Netayahu's speech. Some fear storming of the Capitol.
Politics
Netanyahu's visit inflames political divisions among Democrats . . . Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu came to the U.S. to shore up support for its war against Hamas, but many Democrats don't want to hear what he has to say. Republicans are largely united in support of Mr. Netanyahu, but Democrats are sharply divided with a growing pro-Palestinian faction challenging the party's longtime support of Israel. Scores of Democratic lawmakers are boycotting Mr. Netanyahu's address Wednesday to a joint meeting of Congress — perhaps as many as 100 — including Sen. Richard J. Durbin of Illinois, Sen. Patty Murray of Washington and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York. WashingtonTimes
Republican moves to impeach Harris for handling of border, covering up Biden's decline . . . Rep. Andy Ogles began an effort Tuesday to impeach Vice President Kamala Harris, initiating the move shortly after she became the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee. Mr. Ogles, Tennessee Republican, accused Ms. Harris of high crimes and misdemeanors for her role as "border czar" in the Biden administration, arguing in his impeachment resolution that she has shown "extraordinary incompetence" in enforcing immigration laws. Washington Times
Trump campaign turns attention to Harris . . . Former President Donald Trump and his fellow Republicans are rotating their political cannon away from "Crooked Joe Biden" and toward "Lying Kamala Harris" after the historic shake-up of the Democratic presidential ticket. Mr. Trump and his allies plan to burden her with the Biden-Harris administration's record, cast Ms. Harris as an even more extreme version of the "worst president in history" and deliver a heavy dose of immigration-related criticism. Washington Times
Retired Chicago cop who exposed Jussie Smollett hoax warns voters about Harris . . . Vice President Kamala Harris once called infamous hate crime hoaxer Jussie Smollett a victim of an attempted "modern day lynching." Now the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, Harris to this day has not deleted her 2019 social media post that repeats the false claim, even after the "Empire" actor's criminal conviction in Illinois for the faked attack. Smollett claimed two masked men "doused him with bleach, put a rope around his neck and said, 'This is MAGA country!'" in the heart of Chicago during the 2019 polar vortex. Fox News
Secret Service director resigns . . . Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle resigned on Tuesday after initially resisting pressure from Congress. Ms. Cheatle, an appointee of President Biden who served on his detail when he was vice president, announced her resignation in an email to staff. She said she takes "full responsibility for the security lapse" at the July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was nearly assassinated, a rallygoer was killed and two others were critically injured. Washington Times
Secret Service encourages Trump campaign to stop outdoor rallies . . . Secret Service officials encouraged Donald Trump's campaign to stop scheduling large outdoor rallies and other outdoor events with big crowds after the assassination attempt on the former president in Butler, Pa. For upcoming events, Trump's team is scouting indoor venues, such as basketball arenas and other large spaces where thousands of people can fit, people familiar with the request said. Washington Post
Trump hobbled by yet another fetter placed on his campaign.
New Jersey Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez to resign . . . New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez will resign his office on Aug. 20 following the conviction in his federal corruption trial, according to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy. Murphy, who will select an interim replacement, said Tuesday afternoon he has received Menendez's resignation letter. In the resignation letter to Murphy, obtained by ABC News, Menendez said he intends to appeal the verdict but does not want the "Senate to be involved in a lengthy process that will detract from its important work." ABC News
Trump campaign files complaint to block Biden transferring war chest to Harris . . . Former President Donald Trump's campaign claims Harris fraudulently grabbed funds contributed to a different candidate in the launch of her own presidential campaign, according to a letter to the commission viewed by The Wall Street Journal. "Until Sunday, while Joe Biden had previously stated his intention to place Kamala Harris's name in nomination to be his running mate, Kamala Harris was not actually a candidate for anything," wrote Trump lawyer David A. Warrington in the letter. Wall Street Journal

Feds to clear streets of migrants, put on a 'show' for 'border czar' Kamala Harris . . . When Vice President Kamala Harris made her first and only trip to the US-Mexico border, federal agents on the frontlines were instructed to completely sanitize the area to hide the true severity of the crisis from cameras, sources told The Post — even going so far as braiding the hair of unaccompanied minors. Harris, whose first big job as the nation's no. 2 executive was to control the flow of migrants across the southern border, went to the border near El Paso, Texas, on June 25, 2021 after pressure from Republicans over her handling of the crisis. Border Patrol sources said that agents on the ground were told to start moving migrants out of holding facilities to put on a "show" for Harris. New York Post

Israeli Defense Minister Liberman says Israel fighting the wrong enemy . . . Avigdor Liberman was one of the only Israeli leaders who saw Oct. 7 coming. Now, the hawkish former defense minister turned opposition lawmaker insists Israel is fighting the wrong war, wasting its time pounding Iranian proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah rather than confronting Iran itself. He had warned in a 2016 memo to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Hamas planned to send "a significant number of well-trained forces" to capture communities near Israel's border with the Gaza Strip and "take hostages." Prince William's annual salary revealed after receiving title change . . . Despite the difficult start to the year that his family faced, it appears as though 2024 has been easy on Prince William's finances. The Prince of Wales, 42, received an eye-popping salary of $30 million from his Duchy of Cornwall estate during the 2023-2024 financial year. The Duchy of Cornwall — the estate William, 42, inherited from his father, King Charles III, when he ascended the throne in Sept. 2022 — published its Integrated Annual Report on Wednesday, revealing a whopping $30.4 million surplus for the 2023-2024 financial year. Hottest job market in a generation is over . . . The red-hot hiring and rock-bottom unemployment that helped millions of workers find new gigs, boost their wages and reinvent their careers are giving way to more prosaic times. While the market is still healthy by many measures, signs of difficulty are creeping in. Workers have stopped quitting jobs at a frenzied pace, and college grads are having a hard time breaking into the market at all. The number of open positions for every unemployed person is back to the prepandemic level of 1.2, down from over 2 in 2022. Wall Street Journal
