Good morning,
Welcome to the news for independent thinkers
Leading the News . . .
Tim Walz is rocked by cool JD Vance, admits 'I'm a knucklehead' during genial VP debate . . . Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz stunned watchers of Tuesday night's vice presidential debate as he nervously fidgeted, frowned and even called himself a "knucklehead" — while his Republican counterpart, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, gave a steady and lawyerly presentation and was widely seen as the victor. The largely good-natured forum, hosted by CBS News, featured the two candidates agreeing with each other repeatedly and expressing warm personal sentiments. Walz, 60, who has honed a folksy demeanor on the campaign trail, was noticeably nervous and misspoke repeatedly as he wrung his hands, took frantic notes, and his eyes darted around the CBS studio. New York Post
JD Vance passed many opportunities to hit Walz directly, instead training his genial fire on Kamala Harris. The strategy seemed to be an attempt to show that Walz is likable after the media has demonized him, and it worked.

Vance fact-checks the fact checkers . . . Sen. J.D. Vance fact checked CBS News debate moderator Margaret Brennan after she tried to fact check him about the legal status of migrants in Springfield, Ohio. Brennan initially tried to prevent Vance from responding but he pointed out that "the rules were that you guys weren't going to fact check … so I think it's important to say what's going on." He said: "There's an application called the CBPOne app where you can go on as an illegal migrant and apply for asylum or apply for parole and be granted legal status at the wave of a Kamala Harris open border wand," Vance said. "That is not a person coming in and applying for a green card and waiting for 10 years, that's the facilitation of illegal immigration." Washington Free Beacon
Republicans are livid after the debate moderators fact-checked JD Vance
CBS just couldn't resist, breaking a deal. The problem with "fact checkers" is that they get their facts wrong.
Walz admits he wasn't in Hong Kong during Tiananmen . . . Walz said he "misspoke" when he repeated the false claim for years. "I've tried to do the best I can, but I've not been perfect, and I'm a knucklehead at times," said Walz. Yet Walz still insisted that he "was in Hong Kong and China during the democracy protests and from that I learned a lot"—an assertion that contradicts records showing Walz didn't travel to Asia until months after the Chinese government crushed the protests. Washington Free Beacon
So he "misspoke" again and again and again. That's a lot of "misspeaking."
Trump vows to veto any federal abortion ban . . . Former President Donald Trump said Tuesday he would veto a federal abortion ban after previously declining to say whether he would do so. "Everyone knows I would not support a federal abortion ban, under any circumstances, and would, in fact, veto it, because it is up to the states to decide based on the will of the their voters," Trump wrote in an all-caps message he posted across social media platforms as Vance was pressed on the issue during the vice presidential debate. Counting or certification of the November election results are likely to be delayed nationwide, as states are promulgating different rules on receiving mail ballots, ongoing and likely election litigation, and possible investigations over irregularities, warns an election integrity proponent. Biden, Harris gave billions to Iran for peace, but Tehran responded with destabilizing terror . . . the Biden-Harris strategy of appeasing Iran with tens of billions of dollars in sanctions relief and oil sales only resulted in Tehran's mullahs emboldened to route those funds into a proxy war of terror though Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthis that has destabilized the entire globe. Amid soaring threats from Iran, Russia, Biden-Harris must focus on protecting us all . . . the national security community is increasingly concerned about the growing relations between two of America's top adversaries. However, as Team Biden-Harris is hyper-focused on the threat this unholy alliance poses elsewhere in the world – Ukraine, the Middle East – what about us? Is anyone in charge of protecting our homeland? Rebekah Koffler in Fox News
Biden expands refugee admission to foreign nationals from multiple continents . . . On the same day that President Joe Biden said he'd reduced illegal border crossings by 60% at the southwest border, he announced Monday a sweeping extension of refugee admissions for foreign nationals and "habitual residents" of countries in multiple continents. The authorization is two-fold. The first expands a refugee admission process to 125,000 foreign nationals from countries around the world. The second opens a refugee admission process to foreign nationals and those with "habitual residence in" Cuba, Iraq, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras, Eurasia, the Baltics, among others, with no numerical limitation. Israel may go big this time in response to missile barrage, even hit Iran's nuclear installations . . . As Israel weighs how to respond to Tehran's latest missile barrage, it could take a page from its previous playbook when, after days of deliberation, its military targeted a single Iranian military site. Few expect Israel's response to be as narrow this time, posing a fresh test as the Biden administration seeks to avoid a new spiral of escalation. "The U.S. already lacks sufficient diplomatic leverage to compel a cease-fire in Gaza and Lebanon," said Jonathan Panikoff, a former U.S. intelligence officer. Wall Street Journal
Seven killed, 16 injured in Tel Aviv terrorist shooting and stabbing attack . . . Seven people were killed and 16 injured Tuesday in a "combined stabbing and shooting attack" near a light-rail stop in Tel Aviv, Israeli police and emergency services said. Israeli police said Wednesday in a statement that two men entered a stopped railcar and opened fire at the passengers. They then continued on foot toward Jerusalem Boulevard in the city's busy Jaffa neighborhood, "hitting passersby until they were neutralized" by local authorities and residents who used their "personal pistols." Russian troops have taken complete control of the eastern city of Vuhledar, which Ukrainian forces have been defending since the beginning of Moscow's full-scale invasion two and a half years ago. The US could see shortages and higher retail prices if a dockworkers strike drags on . . . U.S. ports from Maine to Texas shut down Tuesday when the union representing about 45,000 dockworkers went on strike for the first time since 1977. Workers began walking picket lines early Tuesday, picketing near ports all along the East Coast. A lengthy shutdown could raise prices on goods around the country and potentially cause shortages and price increases at big and small retailers alike as the holiday shopping season — along with a tight presidential election — approaches.
