Ukraine fires first US-made missile into Russia: WW3 fears as Kremlin threatens 'nuclear response' . . . Ukraine has carried out its first strike on Russian territory with US-supplied long-range missiles just days after the Biden administration gave Kyiv the green light despite fears it could escalate the conflict beyond control. A fiery explosion at an ammunition depot in Karachev around 75 miles from the Ukrainian border in Russia's Bryansk region lit up the night sky early this morning on what is the 1,000th day of war in Ukraine. The reports emerged within minutes of the Kremlin threatening a 'nuclear response' should Ukraine hit targets on Russian soil with Western-supplied long-range munitions. Daily Mail
Putin signs new Russian nuclear doctrine after Biden's arms decision for Ukraine . . . President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday signed a revised nuclear doctrine declaring that a conventional attack on Russia by any nation that is supported by a nuclear power will be considered a joint attack on his country. Putin's endorsement of the new nuclear deterrent policy comes on the 1,000th day after he sent troops into Ukraine, on Feb. 24, 2022. It follows U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to let Ukraine strike targets inside Russia with U.S.-supplied longer-range missiles. Associated Press

Shapiro sides with state Supreme Court in decision not to count faulty mail-in ballots . . . Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) sided with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in its ruling that faulty mail-in ballots can't be counted. Four Pennsylvania counties openly disregarded a ruling from the highest state court that ballots without signatures or dates cannot be counted, opening up a legal battle with Republican National Committee lawyers. Shapiro came out on the side of the RNC and state Supreme Court, arguing that disregarding the ruling would damage faith in the electoral process. Washington Examiner
Trump campaign official says Pennsylvania Dems will face jail time over ballot recount . . . Trump campaign official Chris LaCivita predicted election officials in Pennsylvania will face jail time for counting mail-in ballots with either incorrect or missing dates after the state Supreme Court previously ruled such ballots should not be counted. "They will go to jail," LaCivita, Trump's co-campaign manager, posted to his X account on Sunday evening. "Count on it." Fox News
Two women testified that Matt Gaetz paid them for sex, lawyer says . . . A woman testified to the House Ethics Committee that former congressman Matt Gaetz paid her for sex and that she witnessed President-elect Donald Trump's pick for attorney general having sex with a 17-year-old at a party, her lawyer said over the weekend. Florida attorney Joel Leppard said in an interview with The Washington Post that one of his clients witnessed Gaetz having sex with the minor at a drug-fueled party in July 2017 — and that Gaetz was unaware of her age at the time but subsequently was told she was underage. Harris paid Sharpton and got a friendly interview . . . Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign reportedly gave large amounts of money to organizations run by media figures in the weeks before sitting down for interviews with them. FEC filings, first reported by the Washington Free Beacon, show the Harris campaign gave two $250,000 donations to Rev. Al Sharpton's nonprofit organization in September and October. Harris sat down for a friendly interview with the MSNBC host on October 20, in which he asked her what she wanted her legacy to be, 50 years from now. Fox News
DNC layoffs with no severance leave staffers scrambling, union says . . . The Democratic National Committee workers' union on Monday condemned layoffs by the organization, saying permanent employees were terminated last week with one day's notice and no severance pay. While staff jobs at campaign offices routinely end after elections, the DNC laid off permanent employees, including people who had been told their positions would continue after the election, the staff union said in a statement. The leader of a New York City church where pop star Sabrina Carpenter filmed provocative scenes for a music video was stripped of his duties Monday after church officials said an investigation revealed other instances of mismanagement. Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello was relieved of "any pastoral oversight or governance role" at his church located in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, Bishop Robert Brennan said in a statement issued by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn. President-elect Donald Trump confirmed Monday that he plans to ask the U.S. military to assist with a massive deportation effort of illegal immigrants who entered the country during the Biden administration. Mr. Trump took to Truth Social, his social media platform, where he verified a statement by conservative group Judicial Watch that he is preparing "to declare a national emergency and will use military assets to reverse the Biden invasion through a mass deportation program." The Pentagon failed its seventh audit in a row, failing to account for its more than $824 billion budget in 2024, the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General (DOD IOG) announced on Friday. The DOD OIG said auditors "could not obtain sufficient, appropriate audit evidence to support an opinion." President-elect Donald Trump's choice to lead the Federal Communications Commission is aiming at NewsGuard, which works to sideline and demonetize some conservative outlets and non-legacy media by labeling their news reports "misinformation."Brendan Carr, whom Mr. Trump nominated Sunday to chair the FCC next year, is calling on the four Big Tech giants to detail their use of NewsGuard and is threatening them with revocation of their federally granted immunity against content-based lawsuits. Two teen girls charged in the beating death of a frail, disabled stranger last year were convicted Monday of second-degree murder in a brutal, group assault that one participant testified was committed out of boredom. D.C. Superior Court Judge Kendra D. Briggs determined the 13- and 14-year-old girls fatally kicked and stomped Reginald "Reggie" Brown when he was out for a walk early on a Tuesday morning in October, taking the kind of routine stroll in Northwest Washington his family said he used to cope with the strain of cancer treatments.
