Netanyahu says 'last minute crisis' with Hamas holding up approval of Gaza truce and hostage deal . . . Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that a "last-minute crisis" with Hamas was holding up Israeli approval of a long-awaited ceasefire that would pause the fighting in the Gaza Strip and release dozens of hostages. Israeli airstrikes, meanwhile, killed at least 72 people in the war-ravaged territory. Netanyahu began signaling there were issues with the deal just hours after U.S. President Joe Biden and key mediator Qatar announced it was complete. Associated Press
The goal of the war was to eradicate Hamas. While there has been incredible success and sacrifice, the goal has not been achieved.
What to Know About Hostage Deal Reached Between Israel and Hamas . . . Phase one of the deal includes an immediate end to the fighting in Gaza, the withdrawal of the Israel Defense Forces from populated areas of Gaza, and the release of 33 hostages, including women, children, the elderly, and the wounded. Biden added that the "Americans will be part of that hostage release in phase one as well," but did not specify which American hostages remaining in Gaza would be released during the first phase. President-elect Donald Trump has encouraged billionaire biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy to consider filling Ohio's vacant Senate seat should the post be offered to him. JD Vance, who previously held the seat, officially resigned Friday to serve as Trump's vice president. Under Ohio law, Gov. Mike DeWine (R) will appoint a replacement for the next two years, and then a special election on Nov. 3, 2026, will decide who serves until the term expires in 2029. Washington Post

One federal Interior Department employee who is supposed to be working in the Washington area lives in sunny Southern California and rarely, if ever, makes it to the nation's capital. Two others live in Oregon, three live in Colorado, and others are spread across the Southeast and Midwest. Dunkin' donuts . . . is out of donuts . . . Dunkin' dropped the "Donuts" from its brand name years ago. Now — at least across Nebraska, New Mexico and some other states — it doesn't have doughnuts on the shelves either. Dunkin' stores in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island in Nebraska all had no doughnuts in their cases Thursday and Friday and put up signs on their doors and drive-thru kiosks informing customers that the pastries were unavailable "due to a manufacturing error." Some locations did offer "Munchkins," or doughnut holes, on Friday. Associated Press
