The Blackburn Report: Making America Safe Again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqtA5r3Rwts

In the final three months of President Biden’s term, thousands of illegal aliens in Tennessee were charged with heinous crimes, including driving under the influence, domestic and aggravated assault, child abuse, rape, vehicular homicide, and murder. Under President Biden, every town was a border town, and every state was a border state. This week, I spoke on the Senate floor about President Trump’s strong actions to secure the border and Make America Safe Again. Since President Trump took office, migrant encounters have dropped 87% at the southern border. Watch my remarks here

Weekly Rundown

Ahead of Valentine’s Day, I introduced bipartisan legislation to incentivize domestic violence awareness training for cosmetologists and beauty professionals across the country. A few years ago, Tennessee passed landmark legislation to give beauty professionals these skills, serving as a model for states across the nation. Due to their close relationships with clients, beauty professionals can serve as the first line of defense against domestic violence to help identify signs of abuse and support victims. The SALONS Stories Act will empower cosmetologists to recognize and assist survivors to help save the lives of vulnerable women nationwide. Read more here. Image
Image Tennessee’s capital has it all, and it would be the perfect choice for a Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) franchise. Senator Hagerty and I sent a letter to Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to express our support for Nashville’s bid to expand the WNBA and host a franchise in Tennessee. The team would be named the “Tennessee Summitt” in honor of the late Lady Vols women’s basketball coach Pat Summitt. Some of the strongest women in history have called Tennessee home - including Coach Pat Summitt, Dolly Parton, and suffragist Anne Dallas Dudley. Bringing this team to Tennessee would honor their legacies by expanding opportunities for young women across the state. Read more here.
On my podcast, “Unmuted with Marsha,” I was joined by Emmy award-winning investigative journalist Catherine Herridge. We discussed the changing media landscape, Elon Musk's takeover of X, and Catherine's recent reporting on the ground in Guantanamo Bay. Watch here. Image
Image I also introduced legislation to help small Tennessee dairy farmers and processors add value to their businesses, including creating new products, expanding their markets, and modernizing their production facilities. The dairy industry is an essential part of the American economy. It is crucial that we provide the resources that dairies in Tennessee need to expand and flourish. Read more here.

  • Last week, I sent letters to several digital advertising platforms - including Amazon and Google - after a report revealed they placed advertisements on a website known to host and distribute child sexual abuse material. This is a heinous crime, and children should be protected from online abuse. Read more here.
  • In just his first weeks back in the Oval Office, President Trump has taken strong action to secure our border. Through executive actions alone, the President has restored the successful Remain-in-Mexico policy, restarted border wall construction, ended catch-and-release, sent troops to the southern border, conducted deportations, and done so much more to Make America Safe Again. Read more about this in my weekly column here.
